You are formally invited by Mrs. Moncur Hamilton (Karen Donathen Duffy) to join her at her home for an 1860s semi-immersion living history Weekend of Delicate Company.

This delightful experience is limited to twelve ladies who will have the unique and very rare opportunity to live from Friday evening (beginning at 6:30 pm) through Sunday afternoon ending at 1:00 pm in the wonderful Shapley Ross House located in Moscow Mills, Missouri, less than one hour west of St. Louis.  Six ladies who wish to stay on site may have the privilege of sleeping in the house; the remainder of participants may set up camp on the grounds or lodge in a hotel just 3 miles away.
It is an exceptional opportunity to have unfettered utilization of a privately owned historic house museum.  In 2012, the home complete a renovation which included refinishing of the original wood floors, hanging of period hand-stamped reproduced wallpaper throughout the home, repainting of the original woodwork in the original colors, etc. The Shapley Ross House is filled with early to mid-19th century period furnishings and material culture items both original and quality historical reproductions.

~Guests will live, dine, sleep, and study in the Shapley Ross House~

Everything is at your disposal during the weekend, for your use and for your enjoyment, in order that you might enjoy the recreated social setting of a private home of the period for the length of the 2 day experience. You will dine on c.1830 china with antique silverware, visit in the formal parlour while seated on Victorian settees and chairs, and, for the first 6 ladies who register, will also sleep on antique feather beds.
(More ladies may be able to be accommodated with a bed if there are those who come with a friend and don't mind sharing a bed.)

The main focus of The Weekend of Delicate Company is “Developing Your Living History Persona” and will include: informative presentations, hands-on workshops, private entertainments and much more directly related to helping you begin or continue to develop your persona.  This weekend will be an outstanding occasion to learn more about the gentlemen and ladies who lived during this era and to use that knowledge to develop who you are endeavoring to portray at Civil War events!

Workshops:

What is First Person and How Does One Use It at Events?
How do You Decide Who You Are and How does that Effect Future Decisions?
Where Does Your Persona Fit in Society: Abilities and Restrictions
Shall I, or Shan't I?: Social Etiquette for Various Occasions
Visiting Cards: Their Design, Use and Etiquette
Voice, Deportment and Carriage
Ballroom Etiquette
Challenges and Forfeits: Home Amusements and Parlour Games

You will, under the tutelage of Mrs. Vallion, etiquette instructress, study how to properly act, speak, carry yourself, interact with others and “be” a person of the 1860s, no matter what persona you develop.  You will have the special opportunity to “practice” your skills throughout the entire event during the many amusements planned.
First person interaction will be introduced and utilized at times throughout the weekend.

~All Levels of Society and Living History Experience are Welcome~
This special weekend and its unique experiences is sure to leave you with a treasure of wonderful memories, a sense of personal accomplishment and a better appreciation of those persons who came before us, who shared in the hardships and sorrows of this divided land in order that they might also share in its abundance and joys.
